The 2025 National Report Shows a Sharp Increase in Racism, Antisemitism and Toxic TikTok Content

Youth European Society (YES) has released the 2025 national report, outlining a significant escalation of online hate, including racism (70% of recorded cases), sexism, homophobia/transphobia and a notable rise in antisemitic incidents. The data confirm that TikTok has become a major driver of harmful content among young users.

According to the findings, 87% of young people encountered hate speech at least once during the year, and 18% reported self-censorship due to the toxic digital environment. Key cases include threats against the Sofia Synagogue, xenophobic political statements and discriminatory media commentary.

Institutional reactions are documented – from CPD sanctions to warnings issued by the Electronic Media Council – yet reporting mechanisms remain underused and overall enforcement continues to lag behind the scale of the problem.
